I use a couple of techniques, depending on the yarn, and how it takes the dyes.
Speckling technique Is applying a small amount of dry dye to wet skeins, the colours swirl into a range of shades, the end result is colour shifts of varying intensity throughout the skein.
Kettle technique (Variegated) Kettle dyeing is adding yarn to simmering acidified water, usually in a “kettle” or crock pot, then adding liquid dyes. Once again the dyes swirl and meld into varying colour shifts to create a variegated yarn.
Hand Painted Is painting the skeins with liquid dyes to create a variegated yarn.
